Committees
Culture and History - The committee will be responsible for identifying programs and sites that impact the culture and/or history of African Americans. The committee will review policies, presentations, and activities related to the establishment, enhancement and preservation of any and all things related to African American culture and or history.
Education - The committee will evaluate education policies and programs to determine their effectiveness and impact on minority children/students. The committee will work with coalition organizations, as well as education entities, to gather information on specific issues and proposed appropriate legislation to address these issues.
Economic Development - The committee will look at ways to achieve economic parity in minority contracting, access to affordable housing, protection from payday lending and access to better job opportunities. The committee will also look at ways to increase economic opportunities through such means as tax credits and proposed appropriate legislation.
Health - The committee will identify and address health disparities in the African American community. The committee will develop appropriate action steps in addressing a number of health issues including but not limited to universal health care, high-risk insurance pool, increase partnerships with heath related personnel/agencies and examine a number of factors and their impact on African American health. This committee will make appropriate recommendations including proposing legislation.
Justice - The committee will consider issues related to the administration of justice and the criminal justice system in North Carolina. The committee will bring forth issues to be considered by the full body for further discussion and develop appropriate legislation.
State Employment/Equity - The committee will consider information related to policies, program and practices that affect state and non-state employees. This committee may also address discrimination and other equity issues.
Budget/Fiscal Affairs - The committee will examine funding issues and appropriations regarding the state's budget. The committee will also address ways to increase economic opportunities through such means as tax credits and proposed appropriate legislation.
